I've been living in Colorado for just over two weeks and I'm having a great time. The beginning of the season is always an exciting time.
For the last two weeks I've been living with my skier friends, Jamie, Jeanne, and Zyre. I find myself mostly surrounded by guys, just because of the nature of the sport, so getting to spend more time with girls is great. We ride together, chill together, eat together, and go out together. It's pretty fun, especially when we meet up with all our other girl friends and have a huge squad.
My first two competitions didn't exactly go how I wanted, but I don't expect too much from the first events of the season. They're just kind of warm ups for the rest of the year. Plus, Olympic qualifiers star next season so in the long run these events don't matter too much. Of course I want to do well, but snowboarding is meant to be fun so I don't want to get too worked up over these results.
Jeanne is competing in Dew Tour so I got one of her friends and family passes to hang out at the start gate and around the course. Dew Tour is such a fun time because all my friends from around the world all come together. Its a great chance to see everyone that I haven't seen since the last season. On one of the days all the skiers and snowboards in our friend group swapped gear and did the opposite sport. It's pretty funny seeing people who are at the top level of their sport out of their comfort zone on the hill.
A few nights ago I went to a Fashion Show with the girls and met up with some of our guy friends. We ended up getting sushi after the show with Shaun White, some members of his band, and a few friends. It was a really fun night and I was happy to finally meet Shaun. I had talked to him at the pipe a few times previously but never spent enough time to have a full conversation. With the bad rap some other riders have given him, I was pleased to find out that he's actually pretty nice, friendly, and funny to hang out with. Just goes to show you need to give people a chance rather than basing opinions off what others say.
Cheers to new friends, a new season, and new experiences!
